By tan I mean natural, light tan. I personally think ivory skin is more attractive. :]]

Before the Industrial Revolution, pale skin was considered the most beautiful. Being white and creamy looking made women look like they had lots of leisure time. People who worked hard were (generally) outside a lot and their skin showed it. Women were encouraged to stay in the shade and use hats and parasols to shade them.

After factories sprang up, workers left the fields and went into the factories, rarely being out in the sun. Pale white skin became a sign of being lower class and not having leisure time.

I'm one of those really strange people who's skin completely changes colour in the summer and winter.

I have dark brown hair and in the summer I tan quite nicely, but in the winter I have ivory skin.

I find I get more attention in the winter because I look more striking. My dark hair completely contrasts with my light skin and eyes so people stare.

Really white skin was considered to be the most beautiful years ago, but now, as society's idea of beauty has changed, all the light skinned girls find it necessary to go and cover their wonderful skin with an orangey fake tan.

Well I think both shades are attractive in their own way. I personally find ivory skin to be more attractive. But really it just comes down to personal preference.

I think it just depends on the person. Certain people can pull off the ivory skin look, some look better tan. It also has to do with how you take care of your skin, no matter the color, it looks better exfoliated and lathered up with lotion.

It depends on what looks good on the person. It also depends greatly on the person who is judging. In western culture the general preference is for tan skin. However in Asian cultures women go to great lengths to have white skin. Personally, I think a subtle natural tan looks best.

it depends on the individual person of course, but it also depends on the culture you're from. for example, the culture in the US thinks that tan skin is more attractive wheras many Asian cultures think that ivory skin is more attractive

I think a person who has naturally golden tan skin has the most beautiful skin ever. I am always jealous of those who are just naturally dark.

celebs usually go for tan skin.. which i think gives the idea that tan skin is better.. but it really depends on the persons features.

i think tan and ivory are both gorgeous!

Personally, i agree with you. Ivory skin is more attractive, but it should be up to you to decide.

I've seen beauty in both all my life. And then, I've seen ugly in both as well. I guess the old adage "Beauty's in the eye of the beholder" is the most important factor. God Bless you.
