my 6 year old girl has decided - on her own - that she wants to participate in our county fair's beauty pageant. i already have a strict "no makeup" rule. but i dont know what to tell her about the way she is suppossed to walk and turn. does she have to smile the whole time? or can it be intermittent? please help, i've never done the pageant thing before and i really want her to feel comfortable and confident. thank you for not bashing me. i really am a good mom :)

It is best to smile the whole time because it shows more personality and they want a queen that smiles. There is a circle turn and there is a pivot turn. In my opinion circle turns are the easiest and most elegant.

To do a circle you begin at "pretty feet". You then walk slowly in a circle as if you were following a hula hoop. Look at each of your judges. Don't make the circle an oval and don't stare at your judges. Keep looking until you naturally can't then as soon as you can look at them again. Finish at "pretty feet". It is a very natural walk so don't make it look awkward. It is kind of hard to describe without actually showing you. The circle can be done either direction depending on which way your pretty feet is facing. If your pretty feet is with the right foot on front you walk right and vice versa. Don't worry about escort he will come to you. Don't forget about posture and all that good stuff.

To do a pivot turn. Stand in "pretty feet". You take a small step with you back foot and but it in front, pause, turn on the balls of your feet 180-degree. You should end up in "pretty feet again" the opposite direction from your starting position. Then you step-pause turn again

Pretty Feet is model t stance

Good Luck!

A_L great job explaining the turns!! I teach "pretty feet" and turns to younger pageant girls and they are so cute and always reming each other "pretty feet, pretty feet"..sometimes called "pageant feet" but I think "pretty feet" sounds cuter...

Ok..does the pageant allow makeup? If it is not a glitz type pageant then I would only do maybe a light pink lip gloss and a little blush. If it is a glitz pageant then she needs to go the whole 9 yards. She does need to smile the whole time and maintain eye contact w/ the judges..she needs to be confident and comfortable in her dress. Just tell her to have fun..if she doesnt win, tell her to practice doing what the winner did if she wants to enter more pageants..

You are a great mom for letting her do this..my mom always let me and I LOVE pageants! I have won prize money and scholarships plus gotten a career in acting and modeling..im 14...I have a big pageant coming up this sat.

Good luck and please let us know how she did :)

Hi,

I was in a pageant with a dance competittion not too long ago. My aunt taught me this:

Don't walk too fast! But don't take all day

Turn Slowly and keep eyes on judges until turned around

Never have your back to the judges

Look UP in the corner so they can still see your face

Don't sway arms real big

Sway your arms naturally down by your side

Have a nice RELAXED smile the whole time

I only did one pageant but my aunt has won a ton! Make sure your daughter doesn't get a big head

well i was in a pageant last year when i was 14. so i will kind of give you basic knowledge i have.

she should smile the whole time she is walking and standing on stage. no frowns.

i don't think they will give her a specific walk cause they are so young. but if they do they will show you and her. but i doubt they will cause shes very young.

i agree don't put makeup on her. maybe lipgloss for a little shine on her face but thats all a little 6 year old needs.

don't make her hair way puffy and stuff. maybe loose curls. and a cute dress. i don't know if you need a casual outfit or not. and i don't know if she has to do a talent. in mine i didn't have to do a talent but i did need to answer a question. and i did need a casual outfit.

just don't go over bored. like some mothers do.

Really for young girls to be in pagents dont turn out to well; They can if you lay the rules right...

Yes they do smile to express them self.... Make sure you alwys tell her to be herself and smile alot while in pagents... Mabye if she looks like she is giving to much attitude on stage take away something that has to do with pagents until she is back to being her self:D
