Question:
Is this top appropriate for school?
Emily

here is the top:
http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product.jsp?catId=cat90038&productId=0352_5848
(in purple)

My dad said that the top wasn't "appropriate" for me to wear to school. I know he means well, so I just changed into another top. Anyway, I just was wondering whether you thought it was appropriate or not.

thanks! :)

As long as at least three buttons were buttoned, and you had on a tank top or something underneath, I guess it would be appropriate.

It fits the average school rules, because it doesn't have spaghetti straps and if buttoned it *shouldn't* show much cleavage, if any. As long as it didn't ride up or show your tummy, I would find it to be okay. If your dad thinks it's inappropriate, then stick by what he says. He's only looking out for you, and he means well.

Maybe you should talk to your dad (possibly mum, too) about what he considers appropriate. If you know what he thinks is "okay" to wear, then you can try to stick to that. Your dad was a teenage boy once, and he's only concerned because he knows what type of thoughts they have!

In my opinion, I think it is alright as long as you wear a cami or tank top underneath of it. I can see how he would say it is not appropriate. AND, it depends on the age you are. Trust me, my dad wouldnt let me wear things like that when I was like 12 to 14 years old. Now, I am 17 and it really doesnt matter.

I think it totally depends on your bust line.

On a tiny little thing with no curves, this would be modest and sweet; on a girl with curves, it could be pretty revealing, and quite distracting for the boys. Your daddy just wants people to listen to what you say and who you are, and not know you only for your body.

I think you could make it school appropriate with a tank or cami underneath, and/or a light 3/4s sleeve cardigan over it.

Yes,it is but if you were to go to my school,it wouldn't be unless you was wearing another shirt over it or under it in in order to not see underarms. But, I would definitely wear it to school to see what the "authorities" would say. If they say something about it, then just wear something along with it like a light-weight jacket or maybe even a fishnet shirt under it.

well in my school we have a three finger rule that the strap that goes over your shoulder has to be atleast 3 fingers wide and tell your dad that you think it is so approprite and if he doesn'r agree just wear a really cute sweat shirt over it! a( i know its now like 100 degrees out but u know try it. and i love that top u have great taste

Looks like it may be low cut. When I was in school they didn't allow sleevless shirts or tank top style shirts. Shows too much skin and drives the boys nuts.

Your dad was a teenage boy once. Trust him on it.

in my school all the girls dress like sluts, but they only let us wear tank tops that cover our shoulders so i guess thats ok. and if you have to think about whether the outfit is appropriate or not then it most likely is not appropriate.

i think it's fine, I have worn things like that to school before myself. The only thing is, you may need a jacket or something to cover the straps cause teachers (and parents) can be a little strict on that

It depends, it doesn't look like anything other than your arms would be showing. I personally see no problem with it, but maybe if it's a little too form fitting and shows a little cleavage, it may be something for someone a little older.

I love it but maybe he thinks its inappropriate because it comes down kind of low in the front. Maybe put a cami under it so it isnt as open

Yeah its fine, my highschool didn't get a dress code until this year, but the middle school shoulderband needed to be 2 fingers width, which that is.

i think it could be appropriate if you wore a cami under it, and had it buttoned all the way up or most of the buttons done

depending on who you talk to, many people agree that it is better to have a top with sleeves to wear to places that are not just social gatherings (school/work/etc).

i don't really see anything wrong with it, but he does have a point.

it all depends on your age and how you where it if you've got dbl d's and no bra, not very appropriate, but if your not wearing it like lingerie i think its fine, but your dad say's no and thats what goes, sorry you spent your dads money on something you couldn't wear

Are you allowed to wear tank tops? Because these straps are definitely same design.

Otherwise, I think it is very pretty!

I don't understand how that top could be considered inappropriate assuming you would have majority of the buttons done up.

yeah i think it's appropriate at my old school the straps or whatever had to be the thickness of 2 fingers and they looked thick enough.
2008-06-11 14:21:56 UTC
Wow! I don't see how anyone can think that shirt is inappropriate for school. That's a cute top and I don't think that its inappropriate at all.
